SpamPal sits between your email program and your mailbox, checking your email as you retrieve it. Any email messages that SpamPal considers to be spam will be "tagged" with a special header; you simply configure your email client to filter anything with this header into a separate folder and your spam won't be mixed up with the rest of your email anymore! Big Big Problems at download2me Posted by Chief on Wed, July 23rd, 2003. 10:20 am Hi All Our regular visitors will have noticed that they were unable to access Download2me recently. Basically, I did some work on the database which stores all our downloads, site templates etc but something went wrong and I wasn't able to undo what I did. Fortunately we regularly back up or database so were able to manually restore an older version. Increased Security Posted by Chief on Wed, July 2nd, 2003. 03:41 pm Dear All After the unfortunate posts that were spammed across the site earlier this week, we have had to take measures to stop this from happening again. Firstly (and this part is unfortunate) we have had to restrict the posting of new messages on the forums that link to out portal pages (the main download pages) to admins and mods only. This should stop people from being presented with vulgar posts when they first access the site. From a community point of view. Everyone can still post new messages in the forums which form The lounge , however members can now only reply to posts made in our main download sections from now on. Secondly. New members now need to have their e-mail address verified before they can post. New members will have a random password e-mailed to them which they need to use before they can login for the first time. Hopefully this should put off 90% of the spammers out there who just want to pop in to our forums cause a little bit of trouble by posting childish and vulgar comments. Anyhow. Lets just say the 23 posts were vulgar, nasty and damn right rude. Nice boy nice has been banned from the site and we have taken measures to stop him accessing the site full stop. Looking at todays Stats I can see that the post I added on Friday of Christina Aguilera - Latest Video - Topless has had 1597 Views, Whilst the post I added yesterday of Avril Lavigne - Looking hot on the beech has had 1621 Views. Now that surprises me as I thought Christina would have the edge but lets see who will be the most popular. Lets see who gets the most page views by Friday. I'll post the results on here. Also, massive thanks go to Ed, Boxin, Mark and Jinx for so far adding over 300 quality downloads to the site and 100's of additional, pics, jokes and other stuff that I hope you all find useful. Upcoming changes Posted by Chief on Tue, June 10th, 2003. 02:57 pm Hi All Just to let you know. There will be a couple of minor changes happening over the next week or so. Because some of the sections are getting a bit on the chocker side we have decided to categorise the sections a little more. This will help you all find what your looking for then. EG. Instead of having a Palm Downloads section. We will have the main Palm Downloads section and in here we will have Palm Games, Palm Applications, Palm Themes and so on. Hopefully, this will make it a little easier to find your way around. To begin with we will just update the forums, but the portals will quickly follow suit. Why we post multiple downloads for the same publisher Posted by Ed on Tue, June 10th, 2003. 01:32 pm Some of you may have noticed that we sometimes post alot of stuff from a single site. Why do I do this. Well its more to do with the content of the site. If I find a really good site that has some really good downloads to offer then I will link to the downloads that I really liked. One example is http://www.uselesscreations.com I added abut 6 screensavers today from this site. Rob the owner at useless creations has done some excellent and very original 3d screensavers, I linked to the better ones individually as it helps people searching for specific screensavers find them. Many of our users use the Search facility on this site so if someone was searching for a star trek screensaver they would find it by searching for star trek. If we just put useless creations the star trek screensaver wouldn't have turned up in the results. get the idea? Anyhow, I just thought I'd try and explain why, as you good folks viewing the latest posts may notice that the publishers for each post are sometimes the same. Hey Chief! Whats with the adverts! Posted by Chief on Sun, June 8th, 2003. 06:50 pm Hi All Well, Download2me has been live for a few months and its taken me by surprise how quickly the site has taken off. Some days last week, we had over 12,000 page views generated by over 2000 daily visitors. I intended at some point to put some advertising on download2me but due to the speed that download2me is growing I decided to add them sooner rather than later. Download2me is hosted by oneandone.co.uk They are supposed to be the best hosting company in Europe and although they are reasonably priced, download2me has exceeded the bandwidth allowance on a few occasions which means I'm being charged extra by one and one for hosting my site. This is where the ads come in. I have tried to make them applicable to the theme of download2me and I don't think they will slow the site down much. I have also tried to keep them down to a minimum. Basically, feel free to check them out (You'll be doing me a favour) :) I won't be adding any more adverts at this stage, I'll never go the pop up route (thats just annoying) so I hope the addition doesn't spoil your online experience. New Partnership Posted by Chief on Fri, June 6th, 2003. 11:27 am Hi All We have been in talks with trygames recently. They seem pretty good so we'll start putting some of their games on the site. Basically, you download the full version of the game. You can then play the full unrestricted version for a set time (eg 1 hour) or you get the first few levels of the game. The good thing is, if you want to buy the full version there is nothing else to download. You just pay for the game, they e-mail you the registration key, you unlock the game and away you go. Full version game with no restrictions. Because everything is done via download you save on the packaging costs so the games are nearly always cheaper then you could find anywhere else. This may eventually replace the current free for all forum as this forum wasn't really free for all as people posting still had to abide by the posting conditions (Still with me ;) ) The unmoderated free for all has Anonymous Posting enabled which basically means people not registed on the site can still take part in posting. We'll be keeping an eye on it for the next few days to see what goes on in there. If you are going to post in there, don't use it to flame any other members.
