Protowall has been designed with performance in mind. Before it's creation, DudeZ, the coder, tried many firewalls and similar applications in order to protect his system from bad IP addresses. Unfortunately, his CPU was often under heavy load and some firewall applications could not handle all the IP addresses he wanted to block. So, he decided to code something better, something that he and others can use for a better solution.
Introducing Protowall!

Protowall is a lightweight program that runs in the background, taking up little CPU and memory, while blocking thousands of bad IP addresses. In Protowall, all the work is done by the driver that filters each packet, extracts the IP header and then compares the address with the ones in the table, then either discards or permits the packet to pass. The GUI is essentially a "driver instructor" that communicates to the driver the IP list to check against. The GUI also receives notifications from the driver when a packet arrives and when actions are performed with a packet. Protowall Blocks both inbound and outbound packets.

Protowall blocks incoming packets from Internet addresses that are on the Bluetack Blacklists. This is handled by another program called the Blocklist Manager. This program finds and retrieves lists of bad IP addresses. They are sorted (overlapping resolved) and then converted to various formats such as Protowall, PeerGuardian & other common applications and firewalls.
Why does Protowall stand above the rest?
Traditionally, many firewalls are resource hogs and have a tendency to crash your system. This is worsened when you try to add extra IP addresses for it to block. Protowall, however, is driver based, meaning it blocks packets at the system level, allowing for fast, lightweight and efficient operation.

Protowall leaves a very small footprint on your resources, even under heavy uploading/downloading, and is very accurate at blocking packets.

Does Protowall contain Spyware? Absolutely Not!

There are no hidden programs in Protowall. The Bluetack team is committed to providing an Internet security solution that is free of any devious spyware/malware. Protowall has no ads either. Many ask why Protowall isn't open source - Protowall has nothing to hide, but it remains closed source to prevent cloning and others stealing its code.

How much do Protowall and the Blocklist Manager cost?

Is Protowall a complete firewall?

No, it is not! Protowall only blocks IP's (internet addresses) you instruct it to block, by giving it a list, or by entering them manually. It is not a firewall, or a replacement for one. It runs alongside a firewall without any problems, however, and we recommend you always have a firewall installed.

Release Information

It is finally here people! The new release of Protowall 2.0! Go download and test the heck out of it please, and thanks for your support. Note: Protowall only works on Windows NT based Operating Systems such as Windows XP/2000/2003.

What’s New:

Added separate windows for Blocked and Granted Packets which can be closed separately.
Added the ability to copy an IP or copy the whole line from the Blocked and Granted screens.
The Auto update is working and will download the new anti.p2p (but may have some bugs)
Added the ability to pick different network adapters
Added the ability to show your MAC address on the Main GUI
Changed the “File” tab location (it is now the “W” in the upper left hand corner)
Driver fixes/improvements/optimizations
New installer. The driver should install by itself on most people's systems.

Current Issues:

There are minor GUI bugs
BSOD has been known to happen, though usually not

Automatic updates do work, but after updating it you get a Protowall failure in the main GUI window and the Protowall.sys error message pops up. A simple restart of Protowall will fix this.
The log to video bug, the granted and blocked packet screens not showing up until you uncheck "load minimized" in preferences.

Norman Virus Control is an excellent collection of antivirus programs and utilities that protect your PC's and servers against malicious software. The most prevalent types of malware are viruses, worms, and trojans.

The single most important task for an anti-virus application is to keep computers free from viruses. Norman Virus Control is built around the advanced core technologies of Norman's Scanning Engine, which accurately detects known and unknown viruses, worms and trojans.

When infected files are detected, NVC cleans, isolates or deletes them immediately - before the destructive code is activated. Many different programs are involved in this. Some of the most important are described below.

On-access scanner
On-access scanning involves constant monitoring of the file system on servers and workstations. Whenever a file is accessed in a read/write operation, or a program is executed, the On-access scanner is notified and scans the file on the fly. NVC's On-access scanner detects and repairs all types of malware. Whenever possible, an infected file is repaired before the file is handed over to the application. If repair fails, NVC denies access to the infected file.

On-demand scanner
This scanner is used for manual scans of selected areas on your machine. You can select entire drive(s), or certain folders and subfolders - even specific files - for scanning.

Networks
System administrators can create scanning tasks to be executed, on selected, or on all workstations and servers in the organization. Tasks can be executed immediately, or scheduled for execution later, for example on fixed intervals.

Norman "Sandbox"
The Norman Sandbox module which is a part of the Norman Scanner Engine, further extending detection of new and unknown viruses. It inserts any suspicious file into a virtual computer, the Sandbox, monitoring the actions of the file in real-time. If virus behaviour is detected, it performs the necessary actions to prevent damages from the virus.

Internet Protection
The Norman Internet Protection (NIP) module scans your incoming and outgoing e-mail as well as files downloaded from News Groups. To reduce the risk of virus infection, we have added file attachment blocking. This gives the user the possibility to set up rules in different ways.

Updating
Norman Internet Update (NIU) is an integrated part of the product and can be configured to regularly check for new and updated files on Norman's product servers. Theoretically, the entire product can be available for downloading if the changes are extensive, while previous versions only updated the scanning engine.

I hate it, I'm sure you hate it too. Your viewing a website and then all of a sudden your screen gets filled with popups.

I've tried some programs in the past which never seem to be 100 sucessfull. The popup companies are always writing new scripts to get around them.

Anyhow. This version has a seven day trial so you can have a play about with it. Then at $15 its not that bad a price if you spend lots of time on sites which have popups - ehem! :shocked . Programs like stop the pop which you can look at by clicking here do a similar job but are free!

Stop-the-Pop is an aggressive pop-up blocker preventing all annoying pop-up windows from appearing as you surf the web. The pop-up blocker has full support for both pop-ups and pop-under ads and will kill them even before they appear on the screen. This is well worth the download as it acts as your own personal firewall that will protect your PC when you are surfing the web.

I'll tell you now, its pretty scary when you see how many times this software blocks people from accessing your PC.

There is a pro version but the free version protects your PC just as well.
